Art on Stage (by video conference) / An enigmatic Egyptian portrait—"Salt's head"

To tie in with its Eighth Presentation, Louvre - DNP Museum Lab will be relaying by video screening a talk given at the Musée du Louvre by Christophe Barbotin, curator at the Department of Egyptian Antiquities. "Art on Stage" is the name given to a series of highly popular talks held at the Musée du Louvre, in Paris, that seek to unravel the mysteries of a given artwork, presented on stage before an audience and explored from every angle using various audiovisual devices. This special live recording by panoramic camera enables viewers in Gotanda to experience the talk as if they were actually in the Louvre's Auditorium. We hope that many of you will join us!

Languages: French (with Japanese sub-titles)

The Egyptian bust known as "Salt's Head" entered the Louvre in 1826, when Charles X purchased the magnificent collection of Henry Salt, British Consul in Egypt.
Yet despite the international fame due to its unparalleled style, we know virtually nothing about this work whose very authenticity is sometimes called into question. Its actual nature, the date of its creation, its origin and purpose all remain unanswered questions. To unravel such enigmas, we rely not only on proven historical and archeological methods, but also on investigations and analyses whereby exact science is applied to the study of works of art.
