Workshop outline (duration: one hour)

The workshop was held mainly in the conference room and exhibition hall of Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art (FPMA), with the aid of digital tablets and "Art Cubes", an art discovery teaching resource. The workshop's format was as follows.

1. Overview of the workshop and the "Rencontres" exhibition.
2. Participants are asked to classify into two groups the twelve selected artwork reproductions and give reasons for their choice of category.
3. Moving to the exhibition hall, participants discover the materials used in actual artworks, using the "Material Cube" (one of the Art Cube art discovery teaching resources developed by the FPMA) to compare weights and textures.
4. One artwork is chosen from among the Louvre selection. Participants are asked to talk about the work with the aid of the "Sensory Cube", drawing on their five senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell) to describe it.
5. While remembering and comparing the way that they divided the works into two groups on the digital tablets, participants are able to enjoy experimenting with viewing the artworks from different angles.
