Trial workshops — approaches to a painting’s subject

Carefully observe, analyse and examine an artwork’s characteristics in order to gain awareness of the story it tells through what is represented and by imagining what it is seeking to express.

In practice:

“Telling a story based on narrative scenes; create a story by combining several paintings”

System used:
digital tablets, mainframe computer, projector

Workshop outline (approx. 50 minutes):

1.Quick overview of the Musée du Louvre.
2.Carefully observe, down to the finest detail, using the “loupe” (magnify) function on the digital tablets, ten artworks depicting human figures taken from the collection of Spanish paintings in the Musée du Louvre.
3.Select 5 out of the 10 artworks as if for an exhibition in the Louvre; line them up on the digital tablet and think of a story linking them.
4.Students tell the story they invented.
